Computers stolen from Luverne Public Library

Published 12:57pm Wednesday, March 27, 2013

The Luverne Police Department is investigating the burglary of five computers from the Luverne Public Library on Wednesday.

Employees opening the library around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning discovered the break-in and theft.

The bottom glass of a side door was broken and used as a point of entry.

The five stolen computers are all 21.5-inch Apple iMacs, valued at a total of more than $6,000.

Library director Kathryn Tomlin said that the computers were about a year old and were purchased with money from a BTOP grant through Auburn University.

“We have a lot of people who come in and do job searches,” she said. “Whoever did this isn’t just hurting us, because this is something of value to the entire community.”

A report for third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property was filed, and investigators say they are still looking for information on the burglar or burglars.

The library is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and the return of the computers.

Anyone with information can call the Luverne Police Department at 335-3334.
