Surveillance video shows burglars grabbing computers at Sanford store

SANFORD, Fla. —
Police said surveillance cameras captured video of two thieves who broke in and started grabbing laptops at Smart Guys Computers, a locally-owned electronics store in the Marketplace at Seminole Towne Center.

The owner of Smart Guys Computers in Sanford is spending $1,500 on new window film after someone broke in over the weekend and stole thousands of dollars in computers.

"Apparently it was an unplanned back-to-school sale for me. They look young," said Glen Coffield, owner of Smart Guys Computers.

The surveillance video shows glass shattering and two people, with their faces completely covered, running straight for the laptops. The thieves worked quickly.

"Less than 40 seconds, (they) run off with nine laptops," said Coffield.

Coffield just moved to the location in Sanford in May. He's still got the rock the suspects used to break out a window in the 4 a.m. burglary.

"It's frustrating. In my last location in Lake Mary I had spent $8,000 for a steel roll-down door in front of the building," said Coffield. "I was thinking I wouldn't need that here. I may have been wrong."

He said the cost to his small business is more than $4,000.

"Unfortunately, the stolen value is going to be very, very minimal. The loss to me and the aggravation -- pretty high," said Coffield.

The serial numbers for the stolen computers are now in a database to prevent them from being sold at any pawn shops. Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call the Sanford Police Department.
