Aberdeen city police are continuing to search for a man who stole a laptop computer from a handicapped college student inside the city's library earlier this month.
A Towson University student with physical impairments became the victim of a theft on Nov. 16, when an unidentified man stole his laptop from the Aberdeen library, Det. Robert Gibbons, of the Aberdeen Police Department, said.
The college junior was visiting the library when the robber approached the victim and followed him around the branch, Gibbons said.
"This guy followed him around, lured him away from his things, grabbed the laptop and took off," Gibbons said. "It's all on videotape."
The victim is nearly legally blind and suffers from cerebral palsy, Gibbons said.
"All of his term paperwork and everything else was on that computer," Gibbons said.
The laptop is described as a 2013 Apple MacBook Pro Model A1398 with retina display, valued in excess of $4,500. The MacBook was inside a black carrying case with multiple zippered pockets.
Lt. Fred Budnick, spokesperson for the Aberdeen Police Department, said that while the department was able to capture video footage of the theft from nearby surveillance camera, they do not have any leads on the robber.
"We're trying to put a name to the pictures," Budnick said. "Anybody that might have been in there and seen this individual, we'd appreciate a phone call."
Budnick said there have been no reports of other laptop thefts in the area.
