Wallarano Primary School students face difficult start to year after $30,000 of computers stolen

WALLARANO Primary School students are facing a disruptive start to the school year after $30,000 of computers were stolen during a lucrative early-morning heist.
Assistant Principal Gail Doney said 30 computers, including 12 Macs and 18 PCs, were nabbed in the burglary in between 4am and 5am on January 2.
The thieves allegedly cut the chain on the gate at the back of the school facing Parramatta Cres then jimmied the door on the new 21st century learning unit, a centre where children are encouraged to "take ownership of their learning".
"They must have had serious boltcutters because they were locked up securely," said Ms Doney.

The thieves managed to steal 30 computers from the Grade 6 rooms before security disturbed them and phoned police.
Ms Doney said it was the first time the school had been burgled.
With children heading back to school next week, she said the burglary would present some challenges for teachers.
"Of course it will disrupt the children in the first two weeks, and it is disappointing that people would do that to the children," she said.
"We will do our best, but $30,000 is a lot of money to replace so we'll have to sit down as a leadership and work that out.
"It just means the children don't have the computers for now and will have to do without them".
Police have since found two of the computers and investigations are continuing.
Anyone with information is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
