UK COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM SCHOOLSWorcester Standard: "Viglen Omnino "
City school burgled again
THE HEADTEACHER of a Worcester school which was this week burgled for the second time in six months has appealed to the community to help identify the culprits.

Janet Cope said staff and children at Ronkswood Infants School were devastated after arriving at school on Tuesday morning to discover two computers had been stolen overnight.

The Year One class had only had the new computers, worth about £1,000 each, for a few months after two were stolen in July when a window was smashed at night and the machines were taken.

Mrs Cope said she believed there were two people who burgled the St Albans Close school in this week's incident as only two of the three computers in the classroom were taken.

The intruders got into the room by smashing a pane of glass in a door. It is believed they then squeezed through the gap.
A school alarm went off at about midnight though by the time the police arrived the burglars had escaped.

Year One teacher Miss Mags Winsland, who has been instrumental in helping her class use the computers, was the first member of staff to discover the burglary having been called out by police at about 12.30am.

Mrs Cope said she felt desperately sorry for her colleague who she said had worked tirelessly to get the computer system up and running again following the first burglary last summer.

"The value of the computers is not important because the insurance will cover it," she said.

"What is important is the inconvienience the theft will cause to the class and the amount of work put in by Miss Winsland which has been undone.

"There must be someone out there who knows who burgled us and I would appeal to them to contact the police."

The year one class of 26 five and six-year-olds had to spend Tuesday morning in a spare classroom while police forensic officers looked for evidence.

Mrs Cope said the school was planning to have double glazing installed in the near future as an extra security measure.

The two computers stolen were both Viglen Omnino PCs. They were silver and were only a few months old. Anyone with information about the theft should call Worcester Police on 08457 444888.
