FLORIDA COMPUTER THIEVES CAUGHTNaples Daily News: NewsA fingerprint match on some stolen computer equipment added to Friedhofer's charges when he was arrested on Monday.
Friedhofer also is charged in connection with a break-in at Clark's Nursery, 1370 St. Clair Shores, East Naples, on Jan 4.
Deputies say he pried a door at Clark's Nursery and stole computer equipment valued at $1,400.
On Jan. 5, Bill Clark, the nursery owner, was contacted by Friedhofer, who said he wanted to collect the $1,000 reward he had heard about for the return of the computer equipment. Deputies say Clark gave Friedhofer, who gave him his name, both $250 cash and a check for $750.
Friedhofer had sold the computer to someone else and so had to pay for it to get it back and claim the reward.
Friedhofer was charged with dealing in stolen property in connection with that incident on Jan. 16.
After he was released on bond, authorities found a fingerprint match on the bottom of a computer speaker he'd left behind at the scene of the nursery burglary, deputies say. That evidence tied him to the break-in.
