Ahmedabad, March 4: GANDHINAGAR police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of youths involved in stealing computers and their parts from government offices in the old and new Sachivalay buildings.

Police said that the prime conspirator and leader of the gang, which has five members, was Naresh Soma Bhil, a porter employed at Block No 14 of new Sachivalaya. Other gang members have been identified as Karan, Jitu, Ajit and Mulji. Ajit and Mulji are employed as sweepers at the Udhyog Bhawan.

Police have till now managed to retrieve stolen computers and parts worth more than Rs 2.92 lakh which include a laptop, several mother boards, hard disks and parts stolen from government offices in last three years. All five were presented before a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) who remanded them in four days of police custody.

Among the gadgets recovered is a hard disk of a computer of National Informatics Centre (NIC) of the Department of Information Technology at Block No 13 in New Sachivalay. The hard disk, that contained a software worth Rs 50 lakh, had been stolen from NIC early last year and when found, had been cleaned of the expensive software.
