A St. Louis charity that repairs and donates used computer equipment to low-income residents has received several offers of help after thieves stole thousands of dollars of materials and cash from its offices.
"We've had a lot of phone calls today," Angela Haas, president of Web Innovations & Technology Services, Inc., said Monday. She said some of the callers have offered to donate used computer equipment; others have offered to provide materials to help repair security doors broken in the Saturday night burglary at 4660 West Florissant Avenue. She said that on Monday afternoon, Boeing Co. told her it would donate 50 laptops to the organization.
She said some $8,000 to $10,000 in equipment and cash were taken from the offices. The money was to have been used to buy laptops for children with cancer and to pay workers who help the agency test and recycle computer equipment.
None of the items stolen was covered by insurance, Haas said. She said that the burglary came almost a year to the day after a similar break-in at the charity.
Persons with information about the break-in or who want to donate equipment or cash to the program may call 314-382-1650.
