Students charged in high school burglary

WARNER ROBINS - Three teenagers were arrested Monday in connection with an early morning burglary at Houston County High School.
Two 16-year-old boys were charged with burglary, a felony, and a 15-year-old boy was charged with party to the crime of burglary, also a felony, Warner Robins police Lt. Bobby Brantley said Monday. He said all three are students at the school, located on Ga. 96.
The teenagers were released to the custody of their parents, Brantley said.
Police responded to a burglar alarm at 1:28 a.m. Monday and discovered that numerous classrooms had been burglarized and computer equipment stolen, Brantley said.
Some of the stolen equipment was discovered west of the school.
Police kept the area under surveillance to see if any of the burglars would come back to retrieve the stolen goods, Brantley. One of the teens did come back to retrieve the stolen equipment, Brantley said.
The value of the goods stolen has not yet been determined, Brantley said. Some of the equipment was recovered, he said.
There was no sign of forced entry, and the students might have gotten into the building through an unsecured door, Brantley said.
Beth Burris, Houston County schools spokeswoman, said the teenagers face a range of possible disciplinary action - from suspension from school with possible enrollment in the Houston County Crossroads, an alternative school, to expulsion from all Houston County schools for up to one year.
Restitution also may be required, Burris said.
All three teenagers have been suspended from school until a hearing before school administrators, she said.
Brantley said authorities are "looking into" whether Monday's break-in was related to the March 24 burglary of the school in which computer equipment also was stolen.
In that incident, burglars cut a hole in the roof of the school to gain access to the school's media center. About $36,000 worth of computer equipment was stolen.
