LAYTON -- The Davis County Health Department is installing security alarms at its clinics here following two break-ins last month.

A contract with ADT Security Services was approved by the County Commission Tuesday to install the alarms in the Layton immunization clinic and WIC clinic. Installation of the alarm system will cost $279 at each site. The service will cost $32 a month.

Computers were reported stolen June 5 and June 14 from the immunization clinic, 360 S. Fort Lane, Suite 3-A, said Layton Assistant Chief Craig Gibson
.

Burglars forced open a back door to enter the building for the first theft. In the second burglary, the front glass door was broken, Gibson said.

Garrett places the value of the first stolen computer between $1,000 and $2,000. The replacement computer stolen the following week was worth $2,200.

There were also small costs associated with repairing the doors that were broken to gain access to the building.

The clinic office was not vandalized, and nothing else was stolen, Garrett said. The clinic houses medications and other electronic equipment.

"It's a bit of a mystery," Garrett said. "We have been at that location for many years and have never had any trouble. Then to have two instances in one week ..."

The police found fingerprints after the first break-in, but have so far been unsuccessful at matching them, Gibson said. Both cases are still active.

Clients' personal information was not saved on the clinic computers. After each theft, the county's information technology staff blocked the machines from logging on to the county's server network.

The health department's other clinics in Farmington and Bountiful/Woods Cross are already equipped with security systems.
