AUSTRALIA COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM LIBRARYMargaret River Online News - NewsThieves force library closure
By Kim Murray on Mon Aug 29, 2005
The Margaret River library has been forced to close after thieves removed all the computer equipment in a raid last night.
Among the ten computers stolen were two servers that contained the library’s database without which they cannot operate.
Library manager, Heather Auld, said that it could be days before the library was able to start lending books and equipment again.
She said that people could return books, but not borrow them until new computer equipment was obtained and the database restored from back-ups.
It is the second break-in at the library in a month. Previously two computers were stolen.
In last night’s raid thieves carried off what were new computers, installed about a fortnight ago.
Quality computers had also been obtained for the public internet service and those too were stolen.
The thieves smashed the front window of the library to gain access to the manager’s office.
The Hewlett Packard computers all carry shire identification marks.
