Equipment at a cost of some NIS 300,000 used to purify raw sewage in the former West Bank settlement of Ganim has been stolen, Israel Radio reported early Monday.

According to the report, the four northern West Bank settlements evacuated under the disengagement plan last week have been hard-hit by looters.

Among the objects stolen from the former settlements are privately-owned items as well as public property, which was set to be transferred to a new storage area in the Industrial zone of Barkan, near the large settlement town of Ariel.

According to local authority estimates, the items stolen include at least five air-conditioners, four computers, two refrigerators, solar water boilers and electrical boxes that serviced public buildings. One large
television set was also stolen from a home.

An Israel Defense Forces source told Israel Radio that those who enter the area are checked for permits and must coordinate their entrance with the authorities. These people include contractors and movers charged with bringing the evacuated settlers their possessions
