Hesperia Unified School District police officers arrested a man accused of stealing computers and other goods from Hollyvale Elementary School while there to clean the school’s carpets.

Kevin White was arrested on July 22 after a supervisor at an area carpet cleaning company called the school police department.

“He said that ‘I think that one of the workers has been taking property from the schools,’” Officer Cindy McCarter said last week. McCarter and Officer Mike Graham investigated, discovering property apparently stolen from Hollyvale in White’s car, including a first aid kit and a backpack.

“Through further investigation - he wouldn’t admit to anything - we found out there were a bunch of computers [stolen],” McCarter said. Witnesses told police White had three laptop computers, one of which he reportedly gave away as a gift. Serial numbers of the computers matched the serial numbers of three of five computers stolen from Hollyvale earlier in the week.

White was arrested on a charge of burglary, and booked into Victor Valley Jail. The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office has added additional charges of grand theft and receiving stolen property.

The two remaining laptop computers are still missing, as is an LCD projector system.
