Donors helping school for special needs children after electronics robbery
Nearly a week after thieves made off with computers and other supplies from a school for special needs children, donors are helping the facility replenish its supplies.
On Thursday, school officials discovered that a classroom at Pine Hill School had been vandalized and several items stolen, including DVD players, VCRS, several computers, phones and printers.
The burglars apparently had entered the building at 3002 Leigh Ave. after prying open the interior doors, San Jose police said. Just a few days before the classroom break-in, the school bus had been vandalized.
``It was really a fairly significant blow to our educational program,'' said L.E. Boydston, executive director of Pine Hill School. The school, which has 45 students enrolled, is part of Second Start Learning Disabilities Inc., a non-profit organization that serves autistic children and children with emotional learning disabilities.
No suspects have been identified, and the school is in the process of moving to a new location on Bouret Drive. ``It was devastating for us, but there's been some good news since,'' Boydston said, referring to donations the school has received."
