Man charged with stealing school computers

ST. CROIX - Police arrested a Frederiksted man Thursday evening who they say stole computers from Central High School when he was installing alarms in the building.
Juan Sanchez, 35 of Queen Street, Frederiksted is charged with stealing two laptop computers belonging to the Department of Education while working as an alarm installer at Central High School on or around July 11. Sanchez's bail was set at $25,000. Unable to post bail, Sanchez was remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility.
Acting Commissioner James McCall said police also are looking for suspects who stole several other computers from Central High School and Ricardo Richards Elementary School. Police said possession of stolen property carries a jail sentence of 10 years and a fine up to $5,000.
Police urge anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau on St. Croix at 778-2211 ext. 6031 or 778-2211 ext. 6035.
