CALIFORNIA EMPLOYEES BEING QUESTIONED ABOUT COMPUTER HARD DRIVE THEFT AT HEALTH FACILITY Palo Alto Online: "Employees questioned in computer theft
Employees at the Children's Health Council in Palo Alto are in the process of being questioned by police about the theft of a backup computer hard drive from a locked room. The hard drive contains sensitive patient and employee information, including social security numbers and credit card numbers, that could be used for identity theft."We're trying to get everyone interviewed who had keys to the locked room, Police Agent Dan Ryan said. We're not through with the interviews yet. He said 13 employees had keys to the room.
The theft was discovered by the health council Sept. 7. The locked room had not been broken into, said Stephen Joffe, the agency's executive director.
The health council sent letters last week to present and former employees and patients advising them of the possibility of identity theft and giving instructions on contacting credit bureaus."
