GODFREY Motion sensors were being installed in Alton High School on Friday, one month after someone stole $20,000 worth of computer-related equipment, authorities said.

The thefts were reported Aug. 18, said Lt. Brad Wells of the Madison County sheriff's office.

An exact tally of missing equipment was not available Friday, but stolen items include several computers, a plasma welder and a high-tech projector.

Authorities found a wheelbarrow just north of the building and believe it might have been used to haul the equipment away, Wells said.

Other evidence from the scene is being processed, he said. No arrests have been made.

The motion sensors are just one step that school officials have taken to prevent further thefts, said Phil Tripani, principal of Alton High.

Surveillance cameras also have been added, he said.

The stolen items were taken from a finished portion of the building where classes are being held, he said, while other parts of the building won't be open to students until fall of next year.

There were no signs of forced entry to the area of the theft, he said.
