FARMINGTON -- Thieves in two separate business burglaries in Farmington targeted expensive computers and cartons of cigarettes, which at an average of $6 a pack in many stores, have become a pricey commodity.

Employees at Mosher's Seafood-N-More on U.S. Route 2 and Route 27, also known as Farmington Falls Road, found 12 cartons of cigarettes missing when they opened for business at 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to Farmington police Officer Brian Ross.

The thieves overlooked lobsters, prime steaks, and beer when they made off with more than $700 worth of cigarettes but did manage to grab $7.25 in quarters and some rolling papers before walking out the door. Ross said they entered through an unlocked window.

On Sunday at about midnight, the publisher of the bi-weekly Franklin Journal had gone to the Wilton Road office to check on some work when he found the back door pried open and five computers stolen, said Detective Marc Bowering. The officer said he was waiting for a list of equipment and its value from publisher David Gustafson.
