MEMBERS of the Royal Solomon Islands Police last week have recovered stolen goods worth thousands of dollars from five separate burglaries and arrested a number of suspects including three women.
Police said five burglaries were committed early last month on business and residential premises in Honiara, resulting in the theft of property approximately valued at SBD$250,000.
“Enquiries conducted by members of the RSIP identified a number of suspects and search warrants for the relevant premises were obtained,” a police statement said.
A total of 25 officers from Honiara and Naha CID, and the Naha Community Beat Office in the early hours of 27th and 30th September executed search warrants on six premises in the area of Burns Creek, East Honiara.
During the searches, police located approximately SBD$50,000 worth of stolen property with items seized include computers, car stereos and power tools from five separate burglaries.
Police have so far arrested a total of 17 suspects, including three women.
They have been charged with the offences of burglary, larceny and receiving stolen property.
The police are confident that they have dismantled an organised group of alleged thieves and expect to make a number of further arrests.
Investigations into the whereabouts of other suspects are continuing.
Police Commissioner Shane Castles said investigators have worked very hard to bring this part of the investigation to a successful conclusion.
“Further arrests are expected and with continued community support we can look forward to more reports of this type in the future,” Mr Castles said.
