RUSSIA COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM GEORGIA SCHOOLThe MessengerNew computers stolen from Tbilisi school, director fired
According to Svobodnaya Gruzia, thieves have stolen all 16 modern personal computers that were recently installed in the Tbilisi School #126. The paper writes that according to the Ministry of Education, these computers were given to the school as part of the ministry's program "Deer Jump" that aims to introduce modern information technologies in Georgian schools.
The paper writes that as a result of the incident Minister of Education Kakha Lomaia gave an order to dismiss the director of the school Maia Bliadze.
"First of all the director of the school is responsible for this incident. She did not provide secure storage of the expensive equipment in the school building," the paper quotes Lomaia as saying. The paper reports that Lomaia promised that similar strict measures would be taken against any schools director who commits the same transgression.
"A careless attitude to work responsibilities is inadmissible," the minister said, adding that preventive security measures should be strengthened in all 260 Georgian schools where "Deer Jump" is being implemented. Simultaneously, the minister promised that in the near future, new computers would be delivered to School #126.
Svobodnaya Gruzia reports that the 16 computers had been bought by the Ministry of Education from the firm Alta who won a tender. They were installed in the school two weeks ago and the paper reports the students were actively using them. The paper reports that the dismissed director Bliadze has stated that a school guard was the first to inform her about the theft of the computers. A criminal case has been opened to investigate the crime.
