COIMBATORE: City police arrested Aslam (35), a resident of Al Ameen Colony, Ukkadam, and recovered 14 computers and accessories worth Rs 4 lakh, which were stolen from different places in the city.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Vidya Kulkarni said, ‘‘He (Aslam) did not have any previous crime records, but was an autodriver. From September 2004, he has been stealing computers.’’

He had committed thefts at Gandhipuram, Saibaba Colony and Peelamedu areas. Aslam was caught on suspicion by the B3 police as he was carrying a computer and its accessories in a bag at Ramnagar.

He used to steal computers by breaking into first floor offices and whenever questioned, escaped claiming he was a hardware engineer. He had sold the computers for Rs 4,000 in the city.

A team of police including assistant commissioner of police R Sundararajan, Inspector K Palanisamy and other policemen arrested him and remanded him to judicial custody.
