ONTARIO COMPUTER MISSING FROM OFFICE OF LIBERAL CANDIDATE Two men sought in stabbing; B&E at Mirza's campaign office

Mirza break-in

It wasn't a nice way to ring in 2006 for the Liberal candidate in Hamilton Centre. Javid Mirza's downtown election campaign office at 82 King Street East, is missing a computer and tape recorder.

"I brought my son's down to the office around 4 p.m. on New Year's Day because they haven't seen it yet," said Mr. Mirza. "My eldest played on the computer while the youngest looked around. We left at around 5:15 p.m."

The next morning, Mr. Mirza found his computer and tape recorder was missing.

"It is a set back for me. It (the computer) held information including personal e-mails from constituents," he said.

Although there doesn't seem to be any sign of forced entry through the main doors, Mr.Mirza wonders if the thieves came in the basement access.

Police are investigating and at this point there are no suspects and police say there was no sign of forced entry.

This is not the first time a politician's computer has been stolen. Former Hamilton East MP, Sheila Copps' computers were stolen twice during the last nomination race between she and Tony Valeri.
