UK COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM COUNCILLOR'S HOME Muswell Hill Journal
Christmas gifts stolen from councillor's home
nlnews@archant.co.uk 04 January 2006

A COUNCILLOR whose Christmas was spoiled when burglars raided the presents under the family tree in Bounds Green wants police action to curb a "serious problem".

Burglars broke into Councillor Wayne Hoban's home in Blake Road as his wife was collecting son Matthew, seven, from school. She had also taken the dog.

They tore open presents, took his home and council computers and his son's PlayStation and games.

Councillor Hoban (Liberal Democrat), who works at the Royal Free Hospital, said: "My wife rang me in tears and my boy was very upset.

"I just feel it's a sad reflection on modern society that people are prepared to go to such lengths over the festive period, when there is supposed to be goodwill to all men, and basically ruin people's lives."

He says talks with residents and beat police have revealed a burglary boom over the past year, and he wants action.

"It's getting to be a serious problem," he said. "It's just interesting I'm now personally experiencing a problem many other people are."

I know police have suggested that if the crime rate continues at the present level they will take positive action."

And I shall be seeking assurances that they will because it is causing increasing concern and anguish to people.
