PENNSYLVANIA THIEF WHO STOLE A COMPUTER FROM SCHOOL DORM APPRHENDED Evening Sun - Local News

A York man who allegedly stole a $1,300 laptop computer from a Gettysburg College dorm room two weeks ago will face charges in Adams County court.

Joe Wayne Clay Jr., 18, of York, last week waived a preliminary hearing on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy. Clay will face arraignment on those charges in Adams County court.

Clay was arrested Feb. 16 after Gettysburg police allegedly found a stolen computer in the back seat of his 1993 Chevrolet.

Police were dispatched to Gettysburg College where Allison Cascone reported a computer was stolen from her Rice Hall dorm room, according to charging documents filed with Magisterial District Judge Thomas R. Carr.

While en route, police saw Clay speeding north on Baltimore Street toward the square, according to court documents. The vehicle was stopped on Liberty Street, police said.

Bonneauville police told Gettysburg police Clay and his juvenile passenger were suspects in a burglary in Bonneauville, charging documents said.

A Dell laptop computer was found in the back seat under two jackets, according to charging documents.

Cascone identified the computer and her description of the people who entered her door room matched that of Clay and his passenger, charging documents state.

Clay and the juvenile were arrested and taken to the Gettysburg Police Department where Clay admitted he and the juvenile entered the dorm room and the juvenile unplugged a computer, placed it under his jacket and left, according to charging documents.
