UK COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM SCHOOLS Midland Daily News - News - 02/14/2006 - 18 computers stolen in school break-ins

Midland Pubic Schools students are short the use of 18 computers after three recent break-ins at school buildings.

Midland Police are investigating the crimes, which occurred at Parkdale Elementary School, 1609 Eastlawn Drive, Midland High School, 1301 Eastlawn Drive and Plymouth Elementary School, 1105 E. Sugnet Road.

At Parkdale, two computers were stolen, and the cost of replacing broken windows is estimated at $750. One computer was stolen from Midland High, though police officers found items including computer speakers, a monitor and a computer processing unit were moved from their original places in a computer lab and left near a broken window.

The Parkdale break-in was discovered early Saturday morning, and the Midland High break in was found at 7:17 a.m. Sunday. The most recent break in occurred at Plymouth Elementary, and was reported at 6:51 a.m. Monday.

In that case, officers determined the suspects tried to use a window planter to break a window, then found a log in a nearby wooded area. After breaking the window and entering the school, a pipe from a custodian's office was used to break an interior window.

Fifteen laptops were stolen from a computer cart which sustained $100 damage. The estimated cost of window replacement is $145.

The total value of the stolen computers is $19,050.
