FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Four East St. Louis area residents were arrested early Thursday morning on felony retail theft charges after they allegedly made off with more than $3,000 worth of merchandise from the Fairfield Super Wal-Mart.
At about 2 a.m. Thursday, a passerby spotted individuals loading a computer and several boxes into a car from a side fire exit and thought something was fishy. The passerby, police said, followed the vehicle as it sped away on Ill. Rt. 15 at a high rate of speed. He was able to provide police a description of the vehicle and a license plate number.
The vehicle was stopped in Mount Vernon, Ill., and authorities recovered a computer and more than 100 new release DVD's believed to have been shoplifted form the Wal-Mart. The loot had a reported value of more than $3,000.
Arrested on felony theft charges are Robert C. Williams, 48, of Cahokia, Ill., 18-year-old Ra Sean J.C. Ridgel of East St. Louis, and two female juveniles, ages 14 and 15, from East St. Louis.
