SOUTH AFRICA COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM SCHOOLS The Herald Online **News**:

Government must make a plan to ensure that school fences are repaired and burglar bars installed to ensure that thieves and vandals can‘t easily enter the school premises.”

Linda Desi, 35, of New Brighton, said residents often called the police about school vandalism, but that this did not deter vandals and thieves.

“Cases are reported, but police sometimes don‘t take this seriously because it is difficult to prove who committed the crimes.”

She said the security guard idea was good, but problematic.

“There are caretakers at schools, but some of these break-ins are inside jobs. Mostly we see school computers being stolen. Parent patrols or community patrols will go a long way to solve the problem.”

Stella Mali, 52, who lives across from Kama Primary School in New Brighton, said the residents had to start seeing the schools as their own homes. The school recently had its computers stolen."
