ILLINOIS COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM PROFESSOR'S OFFICE AT UNIVERSITY AP Wire | 12/23/2006 | 9 laptops stolen from professor's office: "9 laptops stolen from professor's office
Associated Press

CARBONDALE, Ill. -
Police are investigating the theft of nine laptop computers from a professor's office at Southern Illinois University.

The thefts occurred during a break-in at Faner Hall. The stolen computers have an estimated value of more than $19,500.

The laptops had been used by students in the semester that just ended.

Cash was also taken during the burglary, said Capt. Kay Doan with the school's public safety department.

A set of university keys might have been used to enter the office, Doan said. There was no evidence of forced entry, and the professor who occupies the office told authorities it should have been locked.

Doan said police officers will be closely monitoring the school's residence halls and other buildings during the winter break.

'If anyone sees suspicious activity, they shouldn't hesitate to call us,' she said. 'We're still here during the holidays.'"
