NEW JERSEY COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM HIGH SCHOOL PACKETONLINE News Classifieds Entertainment Business - Princeton and Central New Jersey - Trio charged in theft spree:
Teens allegedly involved in high school burglaries

MONROE — Three Monroe Township High School students were charged Tuesday with allegedly committing four thefts over the last six weeks, including three at the high school.

The suspects — two Jamesburg boys aged 17 and 16, and a 16-year-old Monroe boy — allegedly stole $2,585 in property from the high school and a car parked on Butternut Lane, which is about a four miles from the school.

Police said the suspects began their spree by stealing a 27-inch television valued at $535 from the high school in the early evening hours of Nov. 8. They then entered a 2006 Saturn parked on Butternut Lane on Dec. 3 and took a wallet containing $50 in cash as well as credit cards, which were later used in East Brunswick, according to police.

Police said the suspects then stole two Hewlett Packard computers valued at $2,000 from a faculty workroom in the high school during the early evening hours of Dec. 8. They then attempted to steal various chemicals from the high school's science lab Dec. 13 by moving them to another part of the building, according to police.

The suspects have been charged with burglary in all four cases, theft in the first three cases and theft of research materials in the fourth case. They were lodged in the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police said additional charges were possible.
Superintendent Ralph Ferrie thanked the Monroe Township Police Department for their work on the case and said the district was still mulling possible action.
"We appreciate the work they did with the investigation," he said. "The appropriate steps will be taken in terms of school consequences."
