KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Some first-graders at Blenheim Elementary School were without computers Wednesday after a thief or thieves made off with five Dell desktops, three Leap Pads and some headphones.

The computers had been locked down in the Reading First first-grade classroom.

School officials found them missing Wednesday morning.

They didn't know when the thief or thieves struck or how they took them.

"If the computers were still in the classroom, the students would be working on skills, skills that the teacher has already taught, so the computers help them by reinforcing skills that have been taught and skills that they need to be better readers," said Rebecca McKeel, a school official.

They were trying to figure out how to replace the stolen equipment.
