CANSA improving security after burglary
JOHANNESBURG – The Cancer Association of SA (Cansa) is looking at improving its security even further, following a robbery at its national office in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, last Wednesday.
Two safes, eight desktop computers, six laptop computers, the backup server, and one day’s worth of cash donations were stolen during the early morning burglary.
“This robbery has been a huge loss for the organisation, not only in terms of stolen items, but also the loss of important data,” Cansa National Executive Director Sue Janse van Rensburg said in a statement on Monday.
Fortunately, Cansa did not keep much cash on the premises, as donations were banked regularly.
“Cansa would like to inform those who posted cash donations in early May that they may not receive thank you letters due to envelopes with details of the donor being stolen along with the donations.”
A full investigation was underway to see how the robbers managed to get into the premises undetected although Cansa had electric fencing and 24-hour security measures in place, Janse van Rensburg said. –Sapa"
