2 charged with W. Canada school burglary
NEWPORT — Two 18-year-old students are facing felony burglary charges after state police said they entered West Canada Valley Central School last month and took computer equipment.
Brandon Chapman of Newport and Daniel Williams of Middleville were charged with third-degree burglary and sent to the Herkimer County jail to await future proceedings in Newport Town Court, said state police Investigator Bill Vincent in Herkimer.
Vincent said Chapman and Williams allegedly entered the Route 28 school in the town of Newport April 28 by prying open a rear sliding glass window.
Once inside, Chapman and Williams allegedly took computer equipment, a triple-beam scale and some loose change from a teacher's desk, Vincent said.
They also allegedly caused some vandalism inside the building, including damage to computer
Police equipment, a television screen and several doors, Vincent said.have since recovered the stolen computer equipment, Vincent said."
