SOUTH CAROLINA COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM BASEBALL TEAM Teen Accused Of Breaking Into Baseball Stadium - Charlotte News Story - WSOC Charlotte:

A college baseball team became the unlikely victim of a series of high-dollar burglaries.

Rock Hill and Winthrop University police have charged a teenager with
stealing more than $20,000 worth of equipment from the Winthrop Eagles baseball stadium.

Police say 18-year-old John Grobusky
stole computers, PDAs, cameras, radar guns, DVRs, and even some team championship rings.

Owen Reid pitches for the Winthrop Eagles. He said one of those rings belonged to his former roommate. “On a personal level, to have his ring stolen, and then try to resell it, that's disappointing," he said.

Detectives said Grobusky was wearing one of those Winthrop championship rings when he was arrested last Friday.

Then Wednesday night, Winthrop university police said Grobusky confessed to all three stadium break-ins and was charged.

Police Chief Frank Zebedis said Grobusky slipped into the stadium under a concession stand window the first time back in June and stole items from the media room.

Then he returned on two nights in a row in September, smashing office windows with a fire extinguisher. Police believe he must have had help because so many computers and other electronics were missing.

Zebedis said it would've been easier to get into the stadium over the last few months because it's been under construction. Doors were often open, and the alarm system was not on.

"It's an open facility. When you get onto the field, you jump over a fence, and then you have access up into the stands," he said.

However, now that construction is finished, there is a high-tech camera system and burglar alarm in place. Some of the stolen items have been returned
