UTC Students Charged In Burglary, Alcohol Violation

Two UTC students have been charged with stealing items from another student.

And, in a separate case, four UTC students were charged with having multiple bottles of hard liquor in his dorm room.

Dieze Alajujuan Ligon, 19, and Brendan M. Layne, 18, are charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of theft over $500 and vandalism.

Police said last Tuesday they took a report of a burglary at UTC Place. Keenan Simons said he suspected his roommate, Layne, and Layne's friend, Ligon, in the theft of $1,100 in textbooks, $700 in clothing and $205 in electronics from his bedroom.

Police said they located a stolen shirt in Layne's trash can. Officers said they obtained a search warrant and found a BB gun and an X-Box 360 that had been stolen.

Police said they then searched Ligon's dorm at Boling Apartments and found nine other stolen items. They included a laptop computer.

The vandalism charge relates to a door that was damaged during the burglary.

Police said Layne and Ligon confessed.

Their bonds were set at $13,000 each.
