Another State Computer Stolen
DMV Contacting Customers
WATERBURY, Conn. -- Personal information about 155 people might have been on a computer stolen this month from a DMV vehicle, state motor vehicles department officials said.
DMV officials said they're starting to notify those customers and will offer them the chance to sign up for free credit-report monitoring. DMV officials said the machine was a desktop computer stolen from inside a bus.

"As the DMV, we're responsible for our data. Certainly we thought the bus would be more secure than it turned out to be," said DMV Commissioner Robert Ward.
Officials said about two-thirds of those with information on the stolen computers are residents of the Vernon area.
Ward said the software program is designed to purge data each night, so he believes no one's confidential information can be accessed.
"Once we take information into the computer and transmit it to our licensed contractor, a signal comes back saying they've received it, then the next time you turn the computer on, it automatically deletes the information," he said.
He said credit card information was encrypted and Social Security numbers weren't among the data, which included names, addresses and other driver license details
