PROVIDENCE -- Sixteen laptop computers were stolen from a Providence high school, and it may have been an inside job.
Investigators said they believe the thieves knew exactly where to look because the computers were locked in a case, which was inside a locked classroom.
"I noticed bolt cutters on the floor, and my heart kind of sank. I opened up the cart and it was empty," Hope High School teacher Amy Weigand told NBC 10.
Weigand used the computers to teach a new media art class.
"I devised two whole classes around these computers. It was an idea that I had had. I have a graphic design background, and I wanted to bring it to these kids because they don't have technology in the school," Weigand said.
Students are planning a series of fundraisers to replace the 16 computers. Weigand had purchased them with grant money.
"They're not something the school could afford in the first place, so they're probably not going to be replaced," Weigand said.
Weigand said security cameras recorded two people leaving the building with a bag between them, but they had their faces covered. Providence police are looking at the videotapes.
