FIRM STRIPPED OF COMPUTERS
11:00 - 29 December 2007
Burglars stole thousands of pounds of computer equipment over the Christmas period from a Torquay town centre business.
Police investigating the £15,000 theft from Spoton Co-operation Ltd, Higher Union Street, have issued an appeal for anyone who saw hi-tech goods being carried in the street between the evening of Friday December 21 and Thursday morning to come forward.DS Chris Yarwood, stationed in Torquay, said: "The company has lost a quantity of equipment and one of the things stolen was their computer server worth £4,000.
"I am concerned about that because it was built by them and it contains all their software and all the work they have done is stored on it."
Jo, 51, who lives in Torquay, said: "It was a shock to come in on Thursday morning and discover we had been burgled.
"Peter phoned to tell me and I was shocked that someone could have got in and out when we are in such a visible position on the street.
"At the moment we have a computer shortage, so we will have to replace them, but the main problem is the server."
Jo explained the four terabytes server was so heavy it would need more than one person to carry it.
She added: "The actual intrinsic value of it to the company is far more than £4,000 because it covers a large amount of work over a long period of time."
Two 24inch iMac monitors worth £1,750 and £1,500, two Apple Power Books worth £3,200, an HP mini PC, an HP PC tower, a laptop, three Apple Mac Book Pros and a bag of software were also grabbed by the thieves.
DS Yarwood added: "Someone must have seen these people leaving the property either to the rear on to Magdalene Road or out of the front of the shop on to Higher Union Street.
"If anyone saw people carrying computer equipment in the town centre area we would like them to come forward."
