3 local teenagers were in a La Crosse County court room wednesday, charged in connection with a series of thefts at Central High School.

School official say those thefts happened in August and involved thousands of dollars worth of electronics. One of the boys was a former student who was working at the school at the time which school officials say gave him easy access to the electronics.

18-year-old Andrew Wilson was charged with one count of felony theft for allegedly stealing about $8,000 worth of electronics. 17-year-old Adam Wilber and 17-year-old Peter Spencer were charged with buying some of thatstolen property.

The items include computer monitors, hard drives, and electronic projectors from several different rooms in the school. School officials say a tip led them to finding thestolen property. "Our police liaison came up with a lead here last week," said Central Principal Tom Barth, "followed that lead up, and one thing led to another and finally we had the people who were involved in the thefts."

Wilson was the former student employed by the school. Officials say his job was to take inventory of the equipment, and that gave him easy access. Principal Barth said that much of the equipment has been recovered and is in good working order so they will be able to use it again. He says he is happy to have the thefts resolved. "We're just pleased the issue is resolved cause we were worried that we would have more missing computers and technology equipment along the way," said Barth, "we're just pleased that it's solved."

We asked Principal Barth about changing policy to protect them in the future and he said it would be difficult because it was an employee with access that stole the equipment. He said they are just going to have to keep a better eye out next time.

All 3 boys are out on bond, Wilson's attorney says he is close to cutting a deal with prosecutors.
