ISLAMABAD: Capital police recovered cash and valuables worth Rs 58.5 (about 17% of total stolen) million looted during last year in robbery and theft cases and arrested 1,556 outlaws involved in these activities.

The valuables stolen from different areas of the Capital amounted to Rs 342 million and the recovery was of about Rs 58.5 million. When asked police sources said the recovered valuables had been returned to owners after legal procedure.

Giving details of crime, sources said 386 cases were registered with Aabpara police station, 538 with Kohsar police station, 440 with Margallah police station, 457 with Shalimar police station, 339 with Industrial Area police station, 293 with Sabzi Mandi police station, 271 with Tarnol police station, 248 with Golra police station, 232 with Secretariat police station, 287 with Bara Kahu police station, 534 with Shehzad Town police station, 250 with Sihala police station, 69 with women's police station, 30 and 74 with newly established Nilour and Koral police stations respectively.

During 2007, 22 gambling dens were raided and mobile phones and computers worth Rs 25.5 million were recovered. About 218 gangs of outlaws were busted and 612 outlaws were arrested. Among these gangs, 98 gangs comprised two outlaws, 71 gangs comprised three members and 46 gangs comprised four or more criminals.

During the year, about 83 proclaimed offenders and 260 court absconders were arrested and 488 alleged criminals were held for possessing illegal weapons. Five Kalashnikovs, 53 rifles, 31 guns, 354 pistols and 41,110 rounds were recovered from them. In the year 2007, 336 drug-pushers were arrested and 234 kilogram charas, 14.5 kilogram heroin, 9.2 kilogram opium and 5,494 bottles of liquor were recovered.
