NEWBERRY, SC (WIS) - Staff and students at Newberry Elementary School are hoping whoever stole two laptop computers will have a change of heart and bring them back.
Surveillance video was taken inside Newberry Elementary on the day after Labor Day, around five in the afternoon.
The two robbers have towels over their heads and one of them is carrying a bag, and they go inside a classroom.
When the two come out, investigators think the bag is now full of two laptop computers. Laptops that at one time got kids inside this classroom excited about participating in class.
"It certainly denied the children and the students an opportunity to learn with that valuable tool," says Hugh Gray.
The laptops were a part of reading initiative that allowed students to take part in interactive learning.
"Using digital media and using technology is a something that excites the child and engages the child and makes the child more interested in learning," says Gray.
The computers cost $1,500 apiece, and Newberry police think whoever stole them seemed to have been familiar with the layout of the school and maybe had a key. Officers say they're possibly teenagers, and maybe former students.
They were able to get in through the side door, but there are no signs of forced entry.
"Hopefully we'll be able to close this book shortly and find the folks who did this and get those laptops back," says Gray.
If the computers aren't found, Gray says officials are working on replacing them.
If you know anything about this case, call Newberry police.
