NEVADA STOLEN COMPUTER RETURNED Mesquite Local News: Stolen Computer Returned

By Morris Workman 01-30-2009

Employees at Mesquite Local News arrived Thursday morning to find two packages sitting outside the front door of the offices.

According to a letter attached to the packages, the boxes contained a computer and a printer.

Less than two weeks after the
theft of two laptop computers from the newspaper office, the excitement grew in anticipation that the stolen computers had been returned.

They had.

Just not for that office.

The packages actually contained a computer, printer, and equipment belonging to the Owens Surveying Outfit.

The accompanying letter explained that two good Samaritans had been approached in the parking lot of a local casino by a man wanting to sell the equipment for $60.

According to the letter, they bought the equipment.

The two anonymous people realized that it was the same equipment mentioned in a newspaper article regarding the theft at the Owens company.

The letter went on to say that they were returning the equipment in hopes that it would reach its rightful owner.

Jim Owens, longtime resident and owner of the Owens Surveying Outfit, received an anonymous call on Thursday morning, telling him where the items could be found.

He arrived at the Mesquite Local News office and confirmed that the equipment was his.

The equipment was turned over to the Mesquite Police Department, which is investigating the case and actually already had a suspect in custody.

Bunkerville resident Matthew Davis was charged with the theft last week.

According to one source, Davis is a former Owens employee.
