3 arrested after EHS burglary
By Cass Rains, Staff Writer Enid police have recovered more than $6,500 in computer equipment taken from Enid High School over the weekend and arrested three people in connection with the burglary.
Police said 18-year-old Robert J. Cook and a 17-year-old male were arrested Monday after a search warrant was served at Cook’s home and the stolen items were recovered. Police arrested Travis J. Moore, 20, Wednesday afternoon, also in connection with the burglary.
The theft occurred sometime between 10:12 a.m. Saturday and 12:40 p.m. Sunday, according to an Enid Police Department release. Items taken included eight Dell computers, seven calculators, laptop computer, projector and other computer-related equipment, as well as other school property, including a refrigerator. The value of the stolen property was estimated in excess of $6,500 and does not include about $300 of damage done to the school.
“It looks like they had to make at least two separate trips filling and unloading their vehicle because of the large amount of property stolen,” Capt. Dean Grassino said.
Enid Police Department detectives and officers with Enid Public Schools campus police developed information and were able to secure a search warrant for a residence 1524 S. Adams, where it was believed the stolen property could be located, according to Grassino.
About 2:40 p.m. Monday, officers executed the search warrant and found the stolen property inside the home, as well as inside a vehicle parked outside, Grassino said.
Police recovered more $6,500 worth of stolen property and arrested Cook and the 17-year-old, who were at the residence when the search warrant was served. A woman was detained when she attempted to flee out a window as officers were serving the warrant. She was released after questioning.
The teenager was charged with two counts of burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property. Cook was charged with knowingly concealing stolen property.
“We are continuing our investigation and more arrests are likely, as well as additional charges being filed,” Grassino said.
Amber Graham Fitzgerald, Enid Public Schools school and community relations director, said the damage has been cleaned up and repaired.
“We are very glad to have the equipment back because it is very important to work we do with the students every day,” she said. “We appreciate our campus police department and the Enid Police Department ensuring that occurred.”
She said neither Cook nor the juvenile arrested were students in the school district.
