NEW HAMPSHIRE (UPDATE) COMPUTERS STOLEN Concord Monitor - Computers stolen from classroom:

John Stark technology courses are hindere

The Weare Police Department is asking for the public's help finding whoever stole thousands of dollars in computers from John Stark Regional High School last week.

The stolen goods - six Macintosh computers and accompanying 20-inch monitors - were worth about $10,000 and were taken from the school's technology education wing, according to the police.

John Stark Principal Michael Turmelle said the computers were about 9 months old. There are about 150 computers in the building that students have access to.

"We're making do, although they were taken from a technology classroom . . . so it's more difficult to take whole classes in," Turmelle said yesterday. "It's not negatively impacting the students, but is has made life more difficult in those particular classes."

Based on a preliminary investigation, the police believe the thieves were familiar with the layout of the school and that the theft occurred sometime over spring break, between April 20 and 24.

There were no signs that anyone forcibly entered the building in the burglary, which was discovered after classes resumed from break, Turmelle said, but he stressed that the school is letting the police handle the investigation.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Weare Police Department at 529-7755 or School Resource Officer William Duffy at 529-5344. Any information supplied will be kept confidential.
