Laptop Lojacks: helps track computer if lost or stolen

Adriane Frery says her laptop is her life.

She takes it everywhere she goes, except for the one time she left in a hotel room and it was stolen.

“All of my pictures, all of my music, me resume, everything was on there,“ she said.

But there was something else on there that the thief didn’t know.

Lojack for Laptops.

In Frery’s case, her laptop was recovered a few months later.

The thief had sold it to someone in Santa Rosa, California.

Both were arrested.

The reason it took so long to recover is because the Lojack isn’t triggered until the computer connects to the internet.

“The way it works is we put a piece of software in the computer and that software is programmed to call home, home being out monitoring center, on a daily basis,“ explained Affect Strategie’s Rich Cohen.

Even if the thieves erase the hard drive, the Lojack stays and can’t be detected.

The makers of Laptop Lojack say they can locate a laptop within minutes and they get three out of every four back.

“We engage with local law enforcement to get an understanding of where the computer is calling from. They go after the bad guys and we get it back,“ Cohen explained.

Now that Frery has hers back, she says Laptop Lojack is a worthy investment.
