Accused School Computer Thieves Caught In The Act

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―Three Ft. Lauderdale teens and two men are facing burglary charges after they were caught outside of Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale with several computers stolen from inside the school.

Early Thursday morning, police arrested Andrew Loague and Jamiel Young, both 21, along with three teenagers.

Loague and Young are in jail on burglary charges. The younger suspects went before a judge Thursday afternoon.

Ft. Lauderdale police said officers were sent to the school
after a silent alarm was tripped. Arriving officers found the five individuals outside the school with the stolen computers, all in their original boxes. Police said one of the teens tried to escape on foot but was brought down by a police dog. He sported a bandage on his arm in court from the K9 bite.

"They had a knife and tried to open the door," said Satish Patki, a maintenance man at the school.

Angela Wesvy said her grandson -- one of the teens accused with the thefts -- was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"They just got caught up in it. But I think before they put the dogs on them they should have asked them what their ages were," Wesvy said. The grandmother said the 15-year-olds were cousins, but not there to
steal computers.

"Before they put the dogs on them, they should have asked their ages," said Angela Wesvy. "I talked to one, he saw the others run so he started to run. You don't know what kids are doing these days."

According to the Broward School board, 31 computers were taken and only 14 were recovered. That leaves 17 still missing. It's not known if the three teens attended the school. Police said it did not appear that the school was vandalized during the break in.
