A patient not only got a check-up at the doctor’s office on Thursday — he also left with his physician’s laptop computer, police said today.
Samuel J. Hackett, 49, of W. 23rd St. in Wilmington, was charged with one count of misdemeanor theft and released on $656 bail, said state police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh.
Troopers were called to Delaware Valley Physiatry, at 701 Foulk Road, at about 12:30 p.m. to investigate the theft of a computer.
Whitmarsh said troopers were told that the last patient to have access to the laptop was Hackett, who was seen by the attending physician before the laptop was reported missing.
When troopers checked the state’s computer registry, they learned that Hackett was wanted by the Court of Common Pleas.
Troopers then went to his Wilmington home and arrested him.
Whitmarsh said the laptop was recovered in the basement of his home.
