Treasured photos stolen as couple enjoy pop festival

Published Date: 19 June 2009
A couple lost hundreds of treasured photographs when
thieves stole two laptops, along with thousands of pounds of other belongings, during a break-in at their Portsmouth home.

Simon and Cassie West had gone away to the Isle of Wight Festival when their house in Brougham Road, Somers Town, was raided.

They arrived home on Monday to find the place had been ransacked.

Simon, 31, said: 'They had smashed the glass in the back door and trashed the living room and basement.

'They had emptied drawers and gone through loads of papers looking for valuables.'

More than £6,000 worth of property was stolen including a Rolex watch, a 42-inch flat screen television, a PlayStation 3 and a sat nav.

Simon said: 'I think they must have seen us leave the house with all our stuff and known the house was empty.

'It's just a nightmare that we had a great weekend away and then you come back and someone who can't be bothered to get a job has broken in and helped themselves to your stuff.

'The worst thing is that both the laptop computers have pictures from our wedding and all our holidays from the last few years.

'We have got a disc with the wedding ones on but the other stuff was just on the hard drive.'

Police have appealed for anyone with information on the break-in to get in touch.

The intruders smashed the back door of the house between midday on Thursday, June 11 and 8pm on Sunday, June 14.

Anyone with information should contact PC Craig Turner at Southsea police station on 0845 045 45 45, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
