7/17/09 REPORT: FBI, Other Agencies Investigating Reading School District ]
Reading Police say they got a report last week of approximately 50 laptop computers missing from the EXCEL alternative education school in the 400 block of South 6th Street. The district, however, says the computers have been missing since May. District officials have given no reason for the delay in reporting the disappearance. The computers are valued between $500 and $900 each. Police say they're not sure if the computers were actually stolen or simply not accounted for by the district.
The report to police comes as the school district is being investigated by the FBI, the Pennsylvania Auditor General's office, and the Berks County District Attorney for possible wrong-doing with district money.
