Six laptop computers were reported stolen from the Adams Middle School media center on Aug. 18. As of press time, factors including an uncertain date as to exactly when the computers were stolen and increased personnel with access to the building during construction work are adding some hurdles to the investigation, said Guilford Police Lt. Robert Robinson.

According to the Adams staff member who reported the theft, the laptops could have been taken any time between July 31 and Aug. 17, said Robinson. Staff members were on vacation for a portion of that time and didn’t immediately notice the laptops were missing when they returned. The school building at 233 Church Street was accessible during that period to allow construction crews to complete window replacements and other building upgrades and was also open for cleaning crews. The theft was reported to police at 9:41 a.m. on Aug. 18.

The six Dell Inspiration laptops, valued at $650 per unit, were in a carrying case and had been secured to a table in the media center with a wire-rope laptop lock. The laptops are the property of Guilford Public Schools. The second-floor media room was not broken into to gain access to the laptops, said Robinson.
