Brothers arrested for allegedly burglarizing church
Two men were arrested Sunday night for allegedly burglarizing a church after the Yuma County Sheriff's Office tracked them from the scene of the crime.
At 9:44 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a burglary alarm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11545 E. 40th St. in the Foothills.
According to YCSO, deputies discovered a broken window on the south side of the church. A computer monitor was missing from the church.
Deputies followed shoe impressions at the scene, and tracked the suspects over two miles through the desert to a home at 12452 S. Paula Ave.
YCSO's Capt. Eben Bratcher said the deputies learned tracking skills both from experience and from working and training with the U.S. Border Patrol. In this case, YCSO was able to do the tracking on their own.
Inside the home, deputies found the stolen computer monitor, which led to the arrest of brothers Michael Bense, 21, and Albert Bense, 25.
The brothers were booked into the Yuma County Jail on charges of burglary, theft, and aggravated criminal damage, YCSO said.
The monitor was recovered and returned to the church.
